As a trainer and nutritionist I often hear a lot of excuses as to why people are not working hard at staying healthy. One of the most common is this, "Hey when it is your time to go, it is your time to go and no amount of eating right or exercising will stop the inevitable."
Ok while it is true that only God knows when our time will end, adopting a lifestyle that supports wellness or optimal health by far the biggest factor in longevity. Your position on the health continuum makes up 70-80% of your maximum life span proportion with genetic programing being 20-30% and luck being less than 1%. The continum begins at the bottom with sickness, then it moves up to poor health, then moderate health, then good health, then superior or optimal health and then finally to ultra-health.
So I challenge all of you to reach ultra-health status! That means push past the ordinary. Eat only the freshest, nutrient-rich foods. Intensify your weekly workouts, and keep your brain strong by continually learning. Improve your body at the cellular level and you change everything!
Dr. Andersen, author of Dr. A's Habits of Health says to aim for these parameters:

Fasting Blood Sugar: 75 mg/dl
HDL Good Cholesterol 50-70 mg/dl
Next time, "V" for Vitamins! Until then, stay healthy, stay fit, stay strong! -Amy
